About a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus, the island of Poros lies just off the northeastern coast of the Peloponnese. With pine forests and beautiful sandy beaches along approximately 45 km of coastline, the island was originally connected to the mainland at the site of today’s town of Poros.
In ancient times, the land gradually subsided, and the narrow isthmus that once connected the peninsula (the present-day island of Poros) with the Peloponnese mainland was flooded. This created a channel about 250 meters wide and only 4 meters deep, which is still navigable by coastal vessels today.
The modern town of Poros rises picturesquely on a hillside and is located on a fully enclosed, lake-like bay. There is a direct ferry connection from Galatas on the mainland, opposite the island, as well as regular connections from Piraeus by Flying Dolphin.
At present, we do not offer accommodation on Poros. We recommend holiday homes and apartments on the opposite mainland in the region of Argolis.
