Proastio landscape with olive trees and sea view

Proastio is located 6 km southeast of Kardamili, in a landscape full of olive trees above the Messenian Gulf and the Taygetos Mountains. It is a picturesque village with a rich and eventful history. Today, it is considered the oldest post-Byzantine settlement and an important economic and religious centre. During the Ottoman period, Proastio was a constant war zone for the Turks, who burned it down in 1650. Around 400 inhabitants were forcibly relocated to Taranto in Italy.

Quiet and idyllic, with wide views over the sea, lies the holiday home Spiti Mas, which we offer in this area.
