This small island at the southern edge of the Peloponnese is considered the region’s most famous summer destination, thanks to its fine white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Elafonisos (Elafi = deer), meaning “Deer Island,” was, according to Pausanias, home to many sanctuaries dedicated to the goddess Artemis in ancient times. In the picturesque harbor of Elafonisos, boats come and go continuously. Separated from the mainland by a 1 km-wide channel and only ten minutes from Neapolis, this natural paradise resembles the Caribbean.
The island has two settlements: the small, charming harbor village of Elafonisos, with a church, a few fish tavernas, and small hotels. The second settlement, Kato Nisi, is located in the southwest, near the beautiful Panagia beach and its namesake church.
The most famous beach on the island—and the one responsible for its worldwide reputation—is Simos Beach in the Sarakiniko Bay. It is an endless stretch of pure white sand with crystal-clear waters, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the Peloponnese. The sand dunes, shrubs, and cedar forest in the area are protected under the NATURA programme.
Currently, we do not offer holiday homes on the island of Elafonisos. We recommend holiday homes and apartments on the opposite mainland of the Peloponnese in Laconia.
