According to documents from Mount Athos, the present-day village of Agios Nikolaos was likely founded around the 14th century. Oral tradition suggests that the village was formed by merging several smaller settlements, to which refugees from the Peloponnese later joined. This also explains the name “Maniates” (people from Mani), which the inhabitants of Mount Athos gave to settlers in the neighboring villages.
Agios Nikolaos, located approximately 110 km from Thessaloniki, lies slightly inland and above the northeastern coast of the Sithonia peninsula. The village today has around 2,000 inhabitants and features a well-developed infrastructure.
Close to the natural beach of Agios Nikolaos lies the Holiday Home Erika.
