Lefkada takes its name from Cape Lefkata, or Cape Kyra, which is located at the southern tip of the island. In ancient times, this cape was known as Lefkas Petra (white stone) or Lefkas Akra (white cape).
According to legend, the ancient poet Sappho (originally from the island of Lesbos) leapt from the cliffs of this cape in an attempt to escape her love for Phaon.
At the southern cape of Kyra, between the bays of Syvota and Vassiliki and above Ammoussa Beach, several villas and holiday homes have been built in recent years, surrounded by a green natural landscape.
The Ammoussa Bay, with its organized beach (about 4 km away), as well as the tavern and café located behind it, complete the area’s offering. Directly next to Ammoussa Beach, on both sides, lie two smaller unspoiled coves: Spaggia and Vaskitis.
The nearby picturesque village of Syvota, with its charming marina, tavernas, and cafés, offers a pleasant contrast to the peaceful surroundings.
